H4 headlight rock chip repair
I recently picked up a set of used H4's on the board, knowing one lens had a small "bullseye" rock chip that perforated the lens.
I had hoped to use a $10 windshield repair kit from the FLAPS to fill it in. But, they use vacuum to fill in the missing glass with resin, but you can't get a good seal on the fluted side of the lens. Anyone have any thoughts on this (short of dropping the $$ for a new lens)? How about a drop or two of superglue to keep moisture out? ![]() Thanks, Craig

Whatever you put there will distort he beam pattern and clarity. You may also get caught during state inspection, if applicable. Another consideration is a filler withstanding the heat.
You may want to look for a new/used lens.

Okayokay! Clear Epoxy! E.g.
http://www.crscientific.com/epoxy-green.html Or any other clear epoxy! I'd disassemble the light (PITA), clean with alcohol, tape a small piece of clear plastic foil (e.g. a piece of clear polymid foil) over the front of the hole for a "mold" and then fill in the back crater that's now missing with the epoxy. I'd take it in two or three steps since the stuff shrinks quite a bit when drying. Do it face down, so the bubbles can rise. You won't have to refill to the whole glass thickness. After you are done, pull off the front clear plastic foil carefully. If it doesn't come off, cut with a razor blade flush with the lens. When you are done, open the garage, turn the light on and have Rick over to tell you which light is distorted! ![]() Cheers, George |

Yes, thanks George - mine are already disassembled for painting, so it won't be a big deal for me.
Where can I get "clear polymid foil"? What applications is it used for? Craig
