Gotta get to Atlanta....
I have to be in Atlanta, Ga. for a meeting on Monday. I'll be in Atl for about 3 weeks. I am really seriously contemplating driving the Carrera. It's approximately 777 miles from Phila., PA.
The route I see is 95 south through VA., and then to 85 south into Atlanta. . Is there a more direct route such as straight down 95 and then over to 20 in Atl. Thanks in advance.

95 to 20 is a much longer route than 95 to 85.....20 is also smaller (4 lane) for alot of it's route until you get close to Atl...85 is 6 or more lanes almost all the way to South Carolina (and maybe further)
So your best bet is 95 south to Richmond & 85 straight into Atl. Of course just my opinion.... Just avoid hitting atlanta at rush hour...it can get ugly on the top end perimeter (285 loop around Atlanta).....Check http://www.georgia-navigator.com/ for current & planned construction as you approach Atl...LOTS going on right now and they work primarily on the weekends.... Have a safe trip....Dress light, its pretty warm here this time of year...Uppper 80s low 90s with 4000% humidity Still a great place to be.... Chris

I agree with Chris. 95 to Richmond, 85 to Atlanta.
Straightest route .

4000% humidity
Yeah sammy, that is on our better days. Since that last hurricane we have had about 12" of rain that seems to come right back into the air as soon as the sun comes out. If you don't like the weather, just wait a few minutes ![]()

Make sure your AC is charged. If not you will need to change your soaking wet underwear every other hour!!

Watch for a cop shortly after coming out of the baltimore harbor tunnel (in right shoulder), and again just before 695(in the median). 495 beltway usually rolls, not a lot of places for cops, but a few. Watch it on 85, it is only 2 lanes(each way, divided); lots of places for cops. VA just plain suck$, lots of cops, and traffic.

I'll have radar working (concealed), Cell and AAA in hand..
I lived in Phoenix for 10 years and the car's A/C was optimized for the extreme temperatures. At least there will some humidity in the air which is not as devistating at a dry, baking, scorching, hell hole heat over 110 deg. as seen in Arizona. Thanks for the tips, as always...

Uh, its called WEATHER and ATC delays. Its the busiest airport in the world and when a thunderstorm shuts off arrivals and departures for even 30-45 minutes, they simply cant catch up. There are planes taking off and landing every 2-3 minutes on 4 runways. --sorry had to vent....... It just boils me blood when passenegers get on board and cuss out our airline and our F/As because its OUR fault we're late because of delays. Aside from that, there is Auto-X this Sunday!!

Check the Peachstate PCA website for directions to the auto-x on Sunday. Should be a few Pelicans there-myself included. Silver SC, #66.

I had no A/C for the first two weeks after getting my 79 911 Targa. I commute from South Georgia to Tallahassee, Fl every day and the drive home was so hot that I had to change ALL my clothes as soon as I got home each day. I mean it was red light after red light in 5:00 traffic with sweat running down my face the whole time - WOO HOO the joys of 911 ownership....but I wouldn't trade it for a thing....'cept maybe a new 911 ![]() |

Im the last guy in the world that is going to cuss anyone from the airlines or cause a scene in an airport. Ive never done it and I never will. Its not productive and has zero possility of solving the problem. I travel weekly and I know that stuff like this happens. Its part of frequent travel. I dont mind customer self service that gets pushed off on me either. Im more than willing to do someone elses job for them if it will make my life easier. I can fix any problem I run into at an airport with a 10 minute phone call to my travel people. All I need is for someone to give me enough real info to solve the problem myself. The Delta people I deal with in Atlanta are the most unhelpful group of people from any airline that I have dealt with in any airport anywhere. Its terrible. Yes, Hartsfield it is a busy airport. I agree they cant handle the traffic with only 4 runways. Its a problem without a solution. Its the reason why I never voluntarily fly through there for work and I never would spend my own money to on a flight there. fun thread. I'll check back in on Monday when I have to do it all over again ![]() Last edited by Shuie; 07-15-2005 at 10:15 AM.. |

When in NC and on I-85 watch your speed going through Salisbury. Mile markers will be in the 70's. They have some unusual unmarked's in that area. Have seen a minivan pull some one over.
Have a good trip

Sherman, I hear ya..
The main problem is lack of, or slow communication. The Gate agents will tell you anything, (like mechanical issues, when its really due to an incoming crew), but thats mainly because they really dont know 90% of the time why it wont leave on time. I could go on and on, but Ill save it for an off topic thread. Bottom line is, you're right, customers arent treated properly in these situations and alot of help is needed, just dont take it out on the flight crews (not that you did) because we are always the LAST to know whats going on!! (I know Ray B. is getting giggles from this as he is involved in this too!!)
