Which Steering wheel???

My 84 Carrera Targa came with a Momo steering wheel. I'd much prefer an orginal. But which one is correct for my 911. The 3 spoke or the one with the wide long middle section. Which one do you guys think looks better, which feels better.

These are really expensive and hard to find in Australia, ebay is my only source at the moment...

The 3-spoke wheel was stock in `84 here in the US (last year for it), but the 4-spoke may have been available on an `84 ROW car.
So:
If you have the older-style SC seats, you need the 3-spoke.
If you have the later-style Carrera seats, you need the 4-spoke.

Post a pic of your interior if you're not sure about the seats.

They are both disgusting. Consider keeping the Momo.

I think the '84 ROW cars had the 3 spoke wheels. The 4 spoke came out in '85. Not 100% sure but all the cars I test drove in Melbourne of these years had this combo.

Both are fine in feel. My '85's is thin and large (380mm) but it seems to work ok. Of course this isn't stopping me from doing a Momo swap out in the near future as the small diameter and thicker rim represents a different direction I am taking the car.

Stock seats with stock steering wheel.....Recaros/Sparcos with Momo.....one is touring based and the other track based.

3 spoke is stock on '84, and I always liked them-they do match the style of the interior, they aren't "disgusting". Having said
that, mine was tired, and I replaced it with a 930S wheel as shown above. It is phenominal in looks as well as tactile sensation.

Indeed, the 3-spoke wheels was 'stock' on the '84 and to my better (non-amblyopic) eye it is far from being "disgusting" ... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

My good eye especially likes the 930S and the Momo wheel with a Porsche crest horn

The 4-spoke was introduced for the '85 model year. '84 had 3 spoke. Both look good in my opinion.

sounds like i was wrong and that they modern 4-spoke began in '85. my '74 came originally with the standard, 'early' 4-spoke, but i upgraded a few years ago to a 'disgusting' 3-spoke..lol. paid $99 for it on e-bay, but i saw one in the classifieds here going for $40-50.

I bought a brand new '83 944 in May of '82. (one of the first few in the Southeast) It had the 4 spoke wheel. I think it was a factory option, because most of the 944s at that time had the 3 spoke. My '85 Carrera also has the 4 spoke wheel.

Phat_Boy,

If you haven't already, post a WTB in the 911 parts section of this forum. I got a great deal on an original 4-spoke from one of the guys here.

But you may want to consider the 930S wheel. I love that wheel.

I like the stock wheel in my 1987. It is color coordinated with the dash and most important , does not have the cheesy "accordion" adaptor.

It feels fine to me and the large horn pad can come in handy. Also, it is apparently good enough for the "959".

I thought so too, thought the stock wheel was great. Then I got an chance to buy a used 930 wheel as pictured above. It transformed the car, in both driving sensation and looks.
