Should I change my color

I recieved a call from my paint shop he told me since the car is completely stripped I could paint the car any color I wanted. It is know black what do you think ? I would like to paint it yellow ( yellow ruf ) or I like that metallic blue I've seen on a 930's before. Should I keep it black.

I like black for several reasons. I would have a hard time deciding on an other color. Except Aubergine maybe.

Black is classic.

Black is less visible to the fuzz.

Good luck on your decision

I have a black Carrera and it looks fabulous when clean, but that's the problem. Washing it becomes an obsession. That said, if I were in your position I wouldn't change the color.

On the other hand, aubergine would look really good, as would any of the metallic blues. I don't care for yellow, and I'm sick of Guards Red. I would probably go with #937 silver, which is period correct for your car and mine. It probably looks better than any other color on a 911, especially the mid-80's cars, and looks clean even when dirty. And it goes with any color interior.

All solid colors are single stage, easy to repair too especially black, but dark colors show up any body problems, Metallics will be clear coated, thats good but harder to repair in the future. What is the interior color? You could go with an old 60's classic color like Polo Red!! I dont know what your shop does but I always tint the primer color to closely match the finish, this helps hide those stone chips.

Many people look only for Black 911s. Leave it Black...very classic as stated previously

klaucke 07-16-2005 04:41 PM

When you say "completely stripped," does that mean everything, so that the front luggage compartment, door jambs, under the gas flap, in the engine bay, etc will all get painted? If that's the case (that is, where the color change will be completely invisible w/o checking the #'s or cardex), then I'd say a color change is a viable option.

However, if this is only a "glass-out" type job where the front luggage compartment, smugglers box, etc will not be changed, then I would stick with black. Especially where you have a 930, which command a premium and people want a black Turbo, the originality will help. And, it does look very classy on a widebody.

Black..............no question about it.

highly metallic black with a lot of big metal-flake in it....

kycarguy 935 07-16-2005 06:48 PM

Keep it black. Im one of those guys that look for black cars also. I have 6 black cars and they are alot of work to keep clean but worth it. Black is timeless.

I would go Bluetengelb, Ruf yellow. Yellow hides any imperfection much better, most of all dust and dirt. A yellow car will look clean and shiny for weeks, when you would have washed the black car half a dozen times. You have to like it. I certainly like flashy colors. Viper green? ;)

If everything is out and you are doing Jambs, engine compartment and front trunk, I'd go for silver. It really is the classic Porsche color.

I went for Indischrot on my car because I got a fairly good deal, but if I had to do it again, it would be nothing but silver.

Black is just too damn hot in the summer...

Why not?

Because they make more money using clears?? Whats nice about black for the DIY its a factory pack color, no mixing, off the shelf and cheap. I dont think the paint shops will cut you a deal because the paint is cheap but then most their cost is in labor anyhow.

Normally I would recommend some funky early car color, but for your 930, I think it would be great in a fresh coat of the original black.

darkbeer 07-17-2005 09:02 AM

I'd go with Grand Prix White...if it's good enough for Michael Jackson, It's good enough for your 911...

SandyI 07-17-2005 09:22 AM

I'd go with speed/Ruf yellow over black.
Sorry but black and guards red are just too common in So Cal.

Speed Yellow, enough said, Kevinhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1121626848.jpg

I think I will keep it black I could'nt live with my self knowing it was not the original color. The shop is using lots of clear they said it cost like $ 180.00 a quart. Some new kind of stuff they saw on some show car.
