spring plate bolts

Is it common practice to put anti sieze on the ride height concentric and clamp bolts on the spring plates when re-installing? Had a PITA time getting them off. How about the toe and camber bolts?

Thanks

I doubt it would help. The eccentric & locking bolt are torqued to a whopping 181ft/lbs (if you can do it) so I don't think anti seize would do squat. You have to remember that the whole rear suspension is held up by those two bolts. If you don't tighten them enough, your car will fall to the lowest height your indexing allows. I know, I had one side sag when I didn't tighten it enough.

So, skip the anti seize on the suspension bolts & just make sure you torque them all to correct numbers.

Ian, I put it on already. I think it would not harm in any way. When I loosened the 2 bolts the concentric cracked first after an hour of PB blasting and the clamp bolt also cracked. But after it cracked then both nut and bolt was spinning. I did not have the 24mm wrench yet and for the life of me could not break the nut loose. I got the 24mm wrench ( had to fab it on the opposite end of the 36mm because it was only 15mm, no 36/24mm combo or just a 24mm thin wrench in any of 4 bike shops I tried) and used it to secure the bolt head while I used a breaker bar and ...snap the 24 mm end snapped off. So you see the nut itself can fuse to the bolt over time and anti sieze will prevent that so I would reccomend using it for that reason alone. I was carefull not to get any on mating surfaces.
Thanks for your input.

I broke a lug nut tonight. It was torqued to proper spec - 96 ft/lbs. It had been on for 2 months - 1000 miles. Sheared off at the flare. I think I'm becoming a convert to anti seize. Also f**ked up my soft socket & two other lug nuts. An expensive lesson . . .

Man that sucks Ian. I snapped one off the very first time I was taking off a wheel after I purchased it. Paranoid ever since. Had to have the wrench remove it and my Fuchs got marred up slightly in the process. Anti seize it and make sure you put a thin layer on the rounded base part of the nut as well. Comes off like butter that way. I also hear that the Lug nuts should be replaced every 10 years. I guess they get tired of holding on the wheels at 140 + MPH.
Best of luck removing it. I hear that a 3/4" I think it is, holesaw works beautifully. Do a search to find it.

Regarding the spring plates; are those lock nuts torqued to the 180 ft/lbs when you buy them new from Porsche? Not having them mounted on the car, it's virtually impossible to check; putting them in a vise doesn't sound good, considering the torque involved.

J.P.

J.P. I didn't notice them being locknuts. Standard nut and a juicy washer is what I had and yes the spec is 181 lbs which I'm sure you get from the factory.
