More kudos for Steve W and dyno sheets
Dyno'd my car today with a custom chip from Steve W. As expected it worked great. In addition to some WOT performance gains, what doesn't show on the chart is overall driveability. Car runs as smooth or better in all rpms as it did with the stock air meter. Cold start, idle, everything is perfect.
Thanks Steve. Great Job! Also, here are some dyno sheets from different engine configs, stock to today. Posted more for future searches than debate. They give some rough estimates on HP/TQ gains from stock. Internally the motor is a stock 3.2L, G50 tranny, any mods are listed on the dyno sheets. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Don:
What AFR readings did you get after installing the Autothority MAF? I've heard it's hard to tune them for correct AFR. j.p. |

The Autothority chip ran really rich. Proper A/F was my main reason with getting a custom chip from Steve W. I've read where the MAF's are hard to tune. Unless mine is one of the lucky ones, I disagree. Mine was pretty much plug and play. I had some of my own wiring issues but once I got all the wires hooked up, I set the MAF to the factory ohm reading of 2800 and it ran great. Even with the stock chip, it ran pretty good, just too rich. With Steve's chip, it runs great at all rpms. Here are the A/F charts comparing the HP/AF, Steve W chip vs the std Autothority chip. ![]()

I've logged over 100k miles on my Autothority MAF. Only replaced the potentiameter and that was four years ago. Mine too ran rich for a while. The shop I use leaned it up a bit and runs fine. I did send the chip back to Autothority once for calibrating it for Houston's hot summers which they did for free. Even though I've been pleased with them I'll talk to Steve Wong about a new chip after I do some other upgrades.

Tom,
How did the shop lean it out? I know you can adjust the potentiameter but I thought that only adjusted the idle mixture. Also, did your potentiameter go bad? If so, what were the symptoms?

Thanks Don, that is some great empirical data detailing the results that can be expected from chip and exhaust mods.
I have seen all these MAF setups run way too rich, with a remap typically providing the shown changes. MAF is a little more difficult to map because the MAF sensors were individually hand made and curved, and no two meter the same. You can take two different meters, and swap them back and forth on the same car and typically see differences of 1 to 2 afr points. So custom mapping each car with dyno data is the only way to guarantee results and reliability. As a perfectionist, the current results, although great, could a bit better. The second chip iteration should have a perfectly flat afr curve from leaning it out a bit in the midrange and smoothing out the top end. Not a significant amount more power to be gained (~2hp overall) just smoother power delivery. |

Don first, If I recall (this was 5 or so years ago and I am a senior) we adjusted DME box under the seat. Turned the set screw bak a notch or two.
Steve second, do you make a chip for the 1993 RS America. A friend has one and asked. Sorry to derail the thread Don.

JP, drop off that 360 and I'll get back to you after a few months.
For the 964s, and the RSs, yes - just have you or your friend email or contact me. |

Thanks Steve. We'll call late this week. And when you're near completion on modifying the Ferrari let me know so I can come out and help test it.
