rpm/mph question

I noticed recently that on a relatively quick takeoff I get to 60mph in 2nd gear at about 5700/5800 rpm's. It used to be I would have to get to 6000/6100 to get to 60 in 2nd. Does this mean I'm shifting better or that some of my mods have actually improved something? Or does it mean nothing?

Did you change tire size? Without a gear change that is the only way your RPM curve could change since it is based on the gear ratios. If you have increased Hp your throttle position my be less to get to 5800 rpm but more hp will not change the gearing.

No change in tire size or gearing.

I bet your tach is off, hook up a timing light with a digital RPM readout to compare the two readings. This is also the best way to set the idle since it's very accurate vs the gauge.

Have you replaced or adjusted the clutch in any way? Hard acceleration in 2nd gear may have been inducing some slippage and resulting in the higher revs before.
