Sioux Falls - Loess Hills Run
Didn't want to step on any toes so I asked Rdane about this before posting. I took a trip this last weekend to find adventure around Sioux Falls and there is none. The nearest twisties are in the Loess Hills of Iowa. I am willing to put together a route if anyone is interested during the upcoming Sioux Falls get together. It takes about an hour to get to a starting point and then a couple of hours to do the first section and then an hour or so back. Going back would be mostly interstate so could make some time. Or could do in reverse Interstate first then the side roads back to Sioux Fall. You have to cross the Missouri [EDIT: you do not have to cross so more oportunities to get back] so there are only so many ways back. The problem is taking up most of the day. But we own the cars to drive not stand around and look all day. The loess hills are not exactly the rocky mountains but it is the only curves for about 2 states either direction. For more info on the Hill goto. The entire route is rather long and so wold probably only do the north section. I will be more exact if anyone wants to go.

Sounds good to me...hopefully you'll get drivers willing to get back in a car that weekend before the drive home.

I grew up in South Dakota. The nice, curvy roads with the beautiful scenery are located on the other side of the state in the Black Hills. Not too many scenic routes on the east side, unless you stick to the southern part of the state and go through the river hills.

I'm in. I'm willing to drive on any road, flat, hilly, twistie, straight. I just like being behind the wheel.

Took another trip this weekend to plot a course for the Loess Hills run if anyone is still interested. The actual Scenic route portion is about an hour and fourty-five minutes worth of driving. Found a nice place for lunch. Total trip I estimate 1H30M to get to start of run. 1H45M for run, 1 hour lunch, 2H30M Home not quite 7 hours. If we leave at 9-AM Should get to lunch stop at 11:30 and back to Sioux Falls around 4 PM.
Can backtrack an take scenic route both ways adds about 30 to 45 minutes. This was driving at near speed limits. Anyone still interested. If not I will drop it.
