Finally, Pic's of my car

Well, I've been knocking around here for a little while. But, I never posted pictures of my car before because I didn't have a digital camera. We recently decided to purchase one, so here she is. It's a 20 foot car. From 20 feet or better it looks great. But it does have a few warts if you look close enough.

I over paid for it, as I discovered shortly after finding PP BBS. Oh well, I really love this car. Nothing I've ever driven makes my monkey dance like this car does. Best driving experience I've ever had.

Dan

DM, very nice car. I like white. I'm sorry to hear you paid too much but it is reassuring to know I'm not the only one. I found this out for my car as well after buying it, mid-year, but I love it anyway.

Thanks you guys.

I bought it because of the Turbo body on it. Love the wide cars!! And it was done pretty well. So, I don't mind paying so much for it. I sure can't buy a factory Turbo Look car for what I paid. And it's light, no a/c...really feels like a big go kart would and just a blast to drive.

Have you driven a narrow body car for comparison? I got sideways on an onramp when I gave it a little too much gas around a corner (my 3 yr old in the passenger seat). I wondered if a wide body would have handled better? Also, I think your car would look great with those white faced Fuch weels.

I never cared for the white Fuchs look myself, 74. I'd prefer the anodized look with the black trim. But...that's way off in the future. Motor & tranny first. Suspension and wheels second.

Nice looking car. Don't worry about overpaying. When you find something that "makes your monkey dance" (LOL) just drive it and don't worry about it. What's a few thousand over ten years? Drive it until the 2.7 lets go while putting back a little extra cash along the way. Then drop a good used 3.6 in it. Woohoo!

Make sure to try some autocrossing and driver's ed events.

Car looks mighty good to me, and probably would if I was less than 20 ft away. I agree Rob--drive it and love it. Everything else will take of itself.

Nice looking car. I have always liked the look of smoked lenses. Don't see it too often on p-cars.

wow..great looking car, dan! yep, i loves me a white turbo look too. looks like they've painted over the original chrome headlight rings, but that's another update to h-4 you can do if you want for about $300. what size wheel/tire combo are you running? might be able to pick up some used spacers on the classifieds here to fully fill out those awesome hips. are they steel? how's the interior looking? something else you may already be considering - you've got the 'look', what about adding the turbo mod? a number of guys on the board here have 2.7 turbos..sure it shortens the life of an engine, but hey..last i heard none of gets out of this world alive anyway. can't recall if you have the 7:31 or 8:31 tranny? seems like it's the 8:31 if i recall from your earlier thread. let the good times and the $$ flow..

RBS - I'm in La Crosse

Hi Ryan...
You've got some good suggestions. However. I like the retro look of the lights I have now. I might find one of those units that is like a replacement sealed beam but uses a Halogen bulb to keep the "classic" look.

It already has spacers in it now. To me, it doesn't look like they can go much wider, but I guess I really don't know how close they can get spaced out toward the fender lip. But the conversion is steel.

I'm going to keep it NA, but I am constantly mulling over what will be done to it. At times I think I'll keep it a 2.7 and make it RS spec. Other times I think I'd like to get a 3.0 core and build a 3.2 short stroke. An extra .5 liter can't be all bad! It just seems like cheap 3.0 cores are pretty scarce. For the cost of a 3.0 core, I could buy a set of PMO's or get a good start on the tranny. Of course, Mike Bonkalski (sp?...sorry Mike) has a nice looking ITB conversion kit using Megasquirt & TWM. I've been having wet dreams about that set up! THen again, TRE gave me a good idea for a 200 hp 2.7 using a 3.0 CIS set up. Decisions, decisions.

I believe '74 was the last year for the 7:31, so I believe I have an 8:31 in it now. I was asking about what the benefits are of changing to a 7:31 and the reviews were mixed. It appears that the final drive ratio is about the same with wither r/p. So if you put a 7:31 into an 8:31 box without changing gears, first is really low gear. I think I'll leave it at 8:31 and change 2,3 & 4 to get them "close ratio". I'll leave 5th as is.

At least that's the plan for now. It'll probably change some tomorrow. So, I'm not in a real hurry now. Sooner or later, if I think on it long enough, I'll figure it all out.
