'86 ignition problems? need help on this one.
Hey everyone,
I am really dumbfounded on this issue. I have not yet put 1k miles on this car because I just bought it a month ago. Everything is in fantastic shape on the car. One owner car with all records. My car is giving a pinging feeling when accelerating in any gear. This happens with the car hot or cold. It feels as if it is hesitating to go up in rpm's with a slight bump every couple hundred rpm's(almost a miss feeling). At first I thought it was a bad tank of gas so I ran through it for a couple hundred miles and put what I know to be good gas in. Could this be an ignition wire issue(bad wire boot grounding out maybe)? Should I start with replacing the cap, rotor, and wires? They do look a bit dirty/worn and should be replaced anyway but I would really like to know if anyone else has experience with this issue. thanks so much all. regaurds, JS |

Are you saying it was fine when first purchased?

No problem the first few hundred miles with the car.

if there is no record of a recent service, i would start there. a sharp tech usually finds the problem in the course of doing the service.

There was a valve adjust done about 10k ago yet I see no record of the ignition components renewed recently. I will refresh those parts then proceed accordingly.

guess what. just pulled the plugs and they are gapped at .36 which I believe is a bit too much. This could certainly contribute to the issues described.

Hummmm...I've had mine at .060" for years without a problem.
Unless, of course, your ignition wires are stock Beru in which case .028 is about all they're good for. Joe |
they are in fact the stock beru's. magnecors are on the way
