i passed NJ state emissions!
my 77 911 with 183,000 miles failed CO last month, reading 5+% with a 3% maximum allowable. I gave it a little more timing advance, and really leaned out the CIS mixture in the parking lot of the inspection station, and this morning it passed! the thing was so lean it was bogging climbing over the ramp to get on the shock absorber shaker machine. i had to re-adjust the mixture in the parking lot at work, and now it's back to decent performance.
BTW..if you are really in a pinch for a CIS adjustment tool, 1" cut off an old allen wrench, appropriate size (3 or 4mm??) welded to some small diameter rod works great. add a "T" to the top, and you are there. |

Congratulations.
Does your 77 still have the thermal reactors on it and the smog pump? Did they check your emmisions on the rolling dyno or just at idle? Ed

this 77 has a 72 style exhaust, so no thermal time bombs or air pump. they look at the door jamb sticker to see if it says anything about the car using a catalytic converter, don't see those words, so they don't poke around looking for anything fancy in the exhaust.
on a 77 they just test at idle. and yes, they have tried putting the swing-away cooling fan in front of the car to cool the radiator (sic) during the test. |

Cool, I have reactor replacement headers and no smog pump on mine. The door jamb sticker says No-Catalyst. I have NJ QQ plates on mine, so no inspection. I was just curious how it was tested for our model years.
