Just lift them.
I can carry a 915 box around my garage. I can barly lift my 930 box on to a 4" high cart. EDIT: this was meant to be funny (but still true), I'm sure someone has the part numbers.

What do you want to know? Difference is quite obvious. 930 is physically larger...
this is 915: ![]() this is 930: left diff plate is 915, right one 930.

What do you mean "code"?
Differential plate says "930" and has extra reinforcement ring, it's quite impossible to mix it up with 915 gearbox. There are only two types of 930 gearboxes, one with long clutch bellhouse (78-88) and one with short clutch bellhouse (75-77). Picture above shows transmission with long bellhousing, they are most common. Short bellhousing tranny is identical but has shorter bellhousing (sic). Short transmissions are more sought after beacuse they fit in 911 SC withouth modifying engine mounts. Long tranny requres rear engine mounts to be moved further back or clutch housing to be cut or front firewall/tranny mounts to be modified. They are quite rare (being made 75 to 77) and thus more expensive. Gears inside are exactly the same. You can easily check for presence of LSD by rotating the CV-flange...if other flange rotates in opposite direction, there is no LSD.

cheers Goran, I was wondering if there was a code for the turbo box. i think the 915 has a code on a flat tab at the bottom of the box which reads something like 915/60 or something like that. just wondered if you knew the code for the turbo...

If you swap 915 tranny for 930, do you have to change any parts to make your speedometer work right?
