Engine/trans mount washer orientation

When working on what I perceive to be "un-molested" 911's, I find the washers cupped "away" from the rubber in the mounts. I have been told that this gives the mounts a "rising rate" of resistance when they flex, like a shock top mount washer.
I also see the mount washers cupped "towards" the rubber mount, which limits the motion and stiffens the mount. "Racing mounts" on the cheap?
Any old dealer tech's from the 60's-70's remember?
Thanks, Dan

See this thread: motor mount washers - which way round?

Includes the TSB from 1978 that says to install cupped side down, with a caveat.
