Your favorite and most informative threads
Hey everyone,
I am building a website, SLOWLY, using the space pelican parts offers us. What I am going to try and achieve with my web site is to have links to the best of the Porsche BBS world (pelican, rennlist, dorkifus, ect ect). So if there are engine modification threads, brake upgrade threads, fiberglass body panel threads, roll cage threads, ect ect. that you have in saved in your favorites and think warrant being the best of the best please post a link to them here. I'll try my best to get good ones on there that way we can have a data base for when someone asks a good question (that has already been answered, something I am known to do) we can say go here and you should find what you are looking for, instead of using the pelican search function. Sometimes the search just gives too much information. Like searching weber rebuilds, maybe there are 3 really great threads that have the best information on weber rebuilds you get 10 pages of threads from the search and the odds of you finding the good ones is not high. This will take some time as I am just learning html off of information on the web so it is a slow process, but I figured I might as well get some threads that you guys think I should add to the site. Let me know what you think. Thanks for your help. Rich |
This is an awesome idea. Hope you're able to get it off the ground without getting swamped with suggestions (which you probably will be :D )
One of the most helpful bits of info to solve my own problem was Ian's heating write-up and diagrams: http://members.rennlist.com/imcarthur/911autoheat.htm Also, howstuffworks.com is a great starting place for learning about the various components of an engine, transmission, brakes, etc. Chris |

Yeah I guess there would be a lot of cross over information, good point. Hmmm I have to think about that. There are some great threads out there that aren't covered in the tech articles. Like the ultimate backdating thread, and Bill V's brake upgrade web site, 3.2 to 3.4 upgrade, 3.2 short stroke engine, ect. Questions that are broached from time to time that have great information in the bbs but it is hard to find. We'll see what information I get together and go from there.

In the thread above T Bird gives complete instructions on adjusting weber carbs start to finish. |
The one that I like and use the most is the CIS primer @ Rennlist

Do a search for john walker. He's the primo shop in the seattle area and contributes tons of info to this forum. He's saved dozens of people from many hours of pain and suffering.
Now if he coud just expand to Colorado area... |

Trans Rebuild
This is one of my favorites - one of the threads where JW walks someone through a tranny rebuild. |

Awesome suggestions so far. This is what I have made so far.
http://www.pelicanparts.com/MotorCity/rmshaner/ The engine link just takes you to pelicans homepage, but the carberator link will take you to a page with a link to B D's suggested page. I HOPE !!!!! 2nd day doing anything like this. Also if this thread is off 911 topic I understand if a moderator wants to move it. I just thought this would be the best place to come for reference pages. Rich |
MFI info here...Grady Clay's input is superb

It doesn't fit in any of your categories but I always liked "Admit to your stupidity" http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=131836

I have to appologize unfortunetly I cannot ressurect the Grid girls thread. I sure wish I had saved a couple of the pictures though!
Anyway I am still working on this and I think I have some decent material saved so far. But not a ton. So I am still looking for the creme' of the crop threads to link some good information together. What is saved on your favorites list? Does anyone have good links for rust repair. I should search Zeke+rust and see what comes up. THat might be the next section that I build. It takes some time to find the threads that are the most informative, hence the reason I am building the site. Let me know what you think of the site so far, suggestions are appreciated and noted. Most of the suggested threads have been included already. Have a great weekend. Rich Here is the Link http://www.pelicanparts.com/MotorCity/rmshaner/ |
Personally I would cut down the pictures on a menu page. That is the page you want to load fast. Some are on dialup and we all know what an engine looks like anyway. Might want to run carberator thru yer spellcheck, although if you google it you will find 7560 other people who spell it wrong too!
