powder coating
I live in Orlando FL and I am looking for someone to powder coat my fan housing and fan. I have a 1989 911 3.2. The fan is a factory piece and the housing is a new aluminum repro from Vertex out of Miami. Does anyone know of someone in my area that can do the job? Or, do you know someone I can ship to that would do a good job? What should it cost to have this work done?

Im in the same boat. Except I have an entire engine tin and a fan and housing that need to be done. There is no one who can do powdercoat here. So who can I ship this stuff to?

There are some paints you can use - they all match better than powdercoat. And there is a Glasurit that is very tough and matches well.
Hard to believe nobody in "Boss Rouge" can do p/c...

Get the kit and do it yourself!
There is nearly any color you need available.. I did my front end parts, here's a shot of my Koni red strut tubes: ![]() Used rear Koni on the left, new original in the center, and new powder coated strut housing on the right.

Just had some powder coating done here -
D & C Powder Coating 911 Woodrow Wilson St S, Plant City, FL 33563 (813) 719-3440 Top notch very reasonable... I'd highly recommend I'd call them first - just to make sure they will take a shipment. I did all the engine tin too = he even welded a crack - bead blasted - was about $300.

Here's the actual tubes after powdering and just before baking in the "oven".
The holes are filled with plugs, and the spindle wrapped with special heat resistant tape. ![]()

Jake, any details on that oven? I've got the kit, but still no oven. Is it constructed of wood and lined with a foil insulation? Is that a heat lamp and how hot do you bake the parts? Thanks

The details are so low tech it's almost embarrassing, LOL!
The oven is nothing more than the foil faced foam screwed and taped together, and propped up on two 5 gallon buckets. I then cut a hole in the lower back to clear the propane heater, (2 burner) Te dor slips into teh opening, and has a small hole cut for inspection. I followed the directions and pre heated the part before spraying the powder. The heaters were set to their lowest setting, and the oven reached just under 400 degrees. I used an IR type pyromter, and pointed it at the various items. IT was critical to the whole affair. easy stuff, but a bit time consuming!

Hey guy's -
I do my own PC on small stuff, I use an old house type kitchen stove/oven for my " baking " , it will do anything that you can put in it and also makes coffee/lunch in my shop... ![]() Two of the best places to do your shopping is at : www.caswellplating.com www.eastwoodco.com They both sell " kit's " as well as the supplies , both around $200 for the whole set up with the small compressor or you can get just the gun for around $100 Also HarborFreight sells a kit for a similar price, The best thing to do is build you a small recovery both, to save on the powder but you have to take care not to mix or contaminate if you reuse it. It is also best to bead or sand blast the parts, I got my blaster from HarborFreight years ago and it is still going strong, Hope this helps, Todd ![]() PS... to the guy in FLA I have a company that I use in Jacksonville to do large items that will not fit in my oven , they are a little expensive but do a very good job, a DSA roll bar cost me $125 from bare metal. |

Ask for Don. What is cool about these guys is if they are doing other parts the same color as yours they really reduce your cost. They do mostly industrial/race car stuff and have lots going all the time. They often do small motorcycle pieces for me at very reasonable cost, especially if they are running that same color. They prep very well and nothing they have ever done for me is less than perfect. |

Powdercoating is pretty much a no brainer - except when it comes to magnesium. It needs to be heated after bead blasted to allow for outgassing - if you don;t you get lots of little bubbles in the paint.

Columbia Coatings sold me mu kit, and there is a killer place in PA that has hundreds of colors and will send a great sample chart for the trickier colors.
Here is Columbia...not the best web site to navigate, but the gun was cheap and functioned ok. http://www.columbiacoatings.com/main.htm
