Please help Low IQ newbie!!! Trying to get the car ready to take to Niagara Falls on Saturday {tomorrow} For my first anniversary with wife. {made it a year only minor bumps and bruises}


I was tracking down a high idle at operating temp and with the help of you guys I found it. Crack in airflow sensor boot. Also got rid of decel valve.

QUESTION Everytime the car sits over night, to get it to start I have to take the airbox off and push up slightly on the airflow control arm.

QUESTION After driving and she is warm if I turn her off let sit maybe 10-20 minutes she will start but idles very rough and bucks thru the gears till she has ran for a minute. Does the same after a cold start. I tried richening the mix Do I need to increase the mixture?

I hope the weather is good. She runs fairly well once she warms up just do not want to take any chances.

Sure sounds like your car loses fuel pressure after its shut off and thats why its hard to start. Leave the mixture alone (as long as you idle at 2.0-2.25% CO) until you get this sorted out.

I would replace the fuel pressure check valve at the outlet of the fuel pump first. Then, I'd have someone test the Fuel Accumulator with the CIS fuel pressure tester to make certain its holding system pressure for several days.

You are fairly new on the forum. There are several people who usually hit the nail on the head first time. Steve is one, Grady, John Walker and Warren are others who come to mind.

Try what Steve recommended and enjoy the drive. The road North from the Canadian side is beautiful this time of year... go slow, if you go over the guardrail its into the river and over the falls you go...

While they're at it, have your mechanic check your cold and warm control pressures and your fuel pressure with the CIS pressure meter. It's possible your WUR is bad or at least out of spec.

Also if you search John Walker, I think he recommends disconnecting a vacuum hose to the distributor ( or maybe it was the WUR?) on 76s to improve driveability.

Also might try searching for questions before posting them. Not hassling you about this but there are very few things about 911 cars that have not been brought up or covered on this forum (a few but not many! :) ) and that may save you some time and get the information you need a lot quicker than waiting for a response.

Everytime I do a search I am usually blown away by the sheer number of responses. This is a very good tool for us! Not sure if you know about this but many of the normal things we do on our cars have been covered in the Pelican Tech articles. joe..lol..was thinking the exact same thing! not much better advice on this board than having steve pipe up. yep, gliderguy..steve is one of our porsche 'demi-gods' here..when they talk we listen! :)

Just incase any of the guys that intitially responded are still watching this thread, we made it to Niagrara with flying colors. Will post pic and commentary when we get back. Your input and the input of several other threads I started gave me the confidence to take the car, on the trip. The ride up was great. Thanks again.
