What was the "personal reason," if you don't mind me asking?
Also, what kind of vent temps are you getting? |
I have not measured vent temps but it was very comfortable in the Porsche yesterday with 83 degrees ambient and 70% humidity. Today it was 98 and 80% humidity and the cockpit was comfortable but not as cold as yesterday understandably, it was/is a scorcher today so I'm not complaining. I spoke to Mr. Fox who I bought the HC-12a from and really liked the gentleman. The ES-12a is esentially the identical product and was supposedly copied from the HC-12a origin and some patent issues may have been involved. All I can really say. Charlie Fox was pleasant to deal with is what it basically boils down to.
I'm satisfied with his product! |
Update for my A/C...
I changed out the factory r/d to a ProCooler unit. Also switched to the Industrial Grade of ES12-a. The R/D change out was nothing short of a complete PITA!!!!!!! But boy were the results worth it!! I'm seeing 35 degree temps at the center vent with outside temp at 84 degrees today. That would be driving in the city at 35 mph. More interesting than that, when idling at a stop light for 2 minutes, the vent temp didn't raise even 1 degree! Before, I would typically see an immediate 10 degree temp increase within the first minute... Before the change, I would typically see only 55 degrees at the vent. Unfortunately, I didn't try the ES12a in the system prior to changing out the R/D...... This r/d unit looks to be almost 4 times the size of the OEM unit... I guess the real test will be when I see 100 degree outside temps, which are forecasted here for the next several days... Also... I did a little re-routing for the oddly placed return vent location? I took a 1.5" vent tube and stuffed it into the return vent area, sealed it off with tape, and routed the hose near the center console, and under the passenger seat ending in the foot area of the rear seat. Plenty of suction, and now a truly better return flow of air to be recycled. The "BOOM GAS" appears to be the way to go, and there actually is a difference between ES-12a, Duracool, and Freeze 12. My mechanic has used all 3, and has never seen such dramatic results as achieved with ES12a.... |
patrick,
sure wish we knew which was more responsible..the es12a or the procooler..i'm still waiting to see results of someone only making one change and that being addition of the procooler to evaluate its result. but anyway, i'm sure it isn't mattering that much to you right now! congrats on getting cool..i wonder if es12a is available in arkansas. ryan |

ES-12 will mix with R-12 fine and no need to waste the old freon. Unless you have a leak and need to vacuum the system down, just add the new gas to the system and go from there. One can of ES is a bit more than one can of R-12 so go gently. Its easy to overfill the system and that does not help. I am getting outlet temps of 38-40 on my car yesterday... JoeA |

At $6 a can, give ES12a a try just for kicks! 3 cans will fill the system, if it's completely evacuated by vacume. My mechanic was a little pressed for time, as he was ready to strangle me as we didn't finish up until 7 last night... He was hesitant to use ES12a, as he has had little or no success with the other brands of HC type R12 replacements such as - Duracool, and Freeze-12. He was absolutely stumped, and blown away. He said that in 25 years of working on 911's, he had never seen this kind of performance from a 911 A/C system...He too wondered if the ProCooler or the new refrigerant was more key to the improvement. As the Procooler runs about $300, and is a major PITA to install, I'd give the ES12a a try by itself first! No need to change oil, as it is suggested that you run ester oil, but it also works with pag. It also blends with r12, and r134. Renne Air is also offering an amazingly cheap package deal for about $1200, that includes the ProCooler r/d, evaporater, barrier hoses, and sanden compressor.... You can purchase all of the above online... ES12a ProCooler |
