H4 vs. Sealed Beam (OEM) - Pic

When I replaced my OEM sealed-beam headlights (35w/55w, I think) with H4's and halogen 80w/100w bulbs, the difference was amazing. Much better light, across the board.

I just came across some pictures I took the night I replaced them. Great "before and after" comparisons, as they are shot hours apart with the identical camera and settings.

This is the LOW BEAM comparison picture.

I was also very impressed with the lighting improvement I got from going to the USA H4's from the stock sealed beams. Switching is possibly the best low buck upgrade you can do to your car.

I have to agree. For just about $100 (including the two relays - high and low beam) my light output and safety doubled.

Yes, one for HIGH and one for LOW. I had already replaced my blinker switch and headlight switch, so I wasn't in any mood to do it again.

The H4 upgrade is on my list of upgrades when I get my Porsche resonably restored. The regular sealed beams ARE pretty weak. I've only driven it at night a couple times, with NEW lights, and it is still pretty dang weak.

Hmmm... Dunno about the low buck part. I spent a good $500 doing mine, but that included all new wiring, circuit breaker, having the trim rings powder coated, gaskets and bulbs.

I used the simple H4's (motorcycle headlights, I think) and kept my OEM trim rings. 25% the cost.

USA spec H4's are cheap the Euro H4's are the expensive ones. Relatively same performance from both just different aesthetics.
I spent about $100 total including relays and wiring. The lenses only cost $50. and came with bulbs.

In case you were wondering, here is the HIGH BEAM comparison. Stock on the left, H4 on the right:
