Porsche Crest Cayman vs. 911

In the growing interest of the soon to be in showrooms Cayman S I wanted to throw out a hypothetical situation...

If you had the coin, and it was between the two, would it be a top of the line Cayman S or a base model 911?

Cayman S

0-60: 5.1 sec
Power: 295 hp / 250 ft.lbs
Price: $59k

911

0-60: 4.9 sec
Power: 325 hp/ 273 ft.lbs
Price: $69k

As a sports car the Caymen.
Looks, a draw.
But for those stupid back 'b!tch seats' as I call them I would have the 911.

996/997 has grown too big and the styling no longer turns me on. Order me up a Cayman, please.

I too love the itty bitty little rear seats in a 911, I do agree however that the 911 has grown a little obese. This is a tough one, or would be if I had the coin to purchase either one. As it is, I'll stick (and be very happy with) my good ole '85 Carrera.

A better comparison would be your 911 vs the Caymen. I don't have a clue about the 997 so I have nothing to base comparisons on. My modified 911 weighs 2700lbs and has 265hp. There is more to enjoying a car then just figures.

If I have to sell my 87 911 then would probably go with the 911 but....... I don't, so I would take the Cayman!

both 997 and Cayman are watercooled, fatter, more comfortable, easier , more fuel ecnomical , more enviromentally friendly, quieter, safer , refined

how you gonna compare that to an old, uncomfortable, no active or passive safety, noisy, emissions ignorant, unforgiving, raw , light 911 ?

that's comparing apples with peares
and i'de never go for the "New kids on the block". i dig Jimmy Hendrickx

The new Porsches just dont do it for me... I tried...I really did try to get in to them...but something about all new Porsches after 1998 smack of cheapness, poor quality interior, cheap metals and full of plastic on the exterior... RMS issues etc.

Water cooled makes no difference...its quality that does. Im looking a picking up a 98 993 Cab and the car is just so much more solid than the 997 or Boxter is... thats just the way it is...Porsche cheapened their build quality..and sales went up. Go figure.

I'd keep my '80 SC, add on a 40' x 80' shop with a lift and a view so as to have a better place to practice my project addiction.

Cayman = Boxter w/roof.

997 = 996 w/the bugs worked out (RMS).

But 996 prices are falling off a cliff so if you want a water pumper just buy one used and save $30k.

Only prob is that I think those overlapping "Boxter" style gauges are ugly.

You, my friend, and just listed all the reason I love my car so much. Just like most of you I would pull a Steve Miller Band and
"take the money and run", but it was a hypotheitcial question to see how it broke down if you were a clueless rich golfer type.

The base 911 doesn't cut it anymore in my opinion. At the very least you have to get a CarreraS, so sign me up for a Cayman.

Between my 911 and a CaymanS, if there wasn't so much sentimental value tied up in my car I'd definately spring for the CaymanS. Superior performance, attractive looking, decent interior with good A/C and stereo all with a nice factory warranty if/when anything goes wrong.

Cayman just looks more aggressive. Appeals more to my eyes- but then beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
