Saturdays Work....Man I hate RUST!
So today I finally made some good progress on my car. I repaired the rust on both front fenders and welded up the holes from the rocker moldings. It is amazing how much work that little bit of progress is. Now I just have to fill all the holes in the front bumber (gonna be smooth like the 911R) and I can get on with prepping for paint.
The corners on both of the fenders were gone. Cut it out and put in new sheet metal. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1122163475.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1122163485.jpg Here is the side of the fender that was all full of holes. I cut it out put metal in and welded it up. I just have to grind it down now. I put Por-15 on it to prevent rust so it looks black now. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1122163495.jpg All 911s look the same without front fenders..... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1122163505.jpg I painted the engine tins to match the car. I have seen this before and it looks quite nice. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1122163514.jpg Rockers welded up. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1122163522.jpg |
Kevin great job, good luck on the rest of the project

Kevin:
You are lucky you have the skills to do that. Looks good. |
Impressive work, nice.

You know a very wise man once told me. "if you can use a squirt gun you can weld". There is a little more to it than that, but if you don't mind grinding then it isn't very difficult. I haven't done much welding in years so it is taking a little practice to get back in a grove. However, I am fortunate to have a friend who is very good at this stuff. Between the two of us it is coming along.
I just wish it could go faster! |
Funny thing that this reminds me of...................Yesterday My GF and I were driving back from the machine shop. I dropped all my engine pieces off to "have sum work dun" and of course left with a much lighter wallet.
I was b*tchin a little about the $$ and time we have so far in the engine and how much farther we need to go. Just then she pointed to a turbo coupe shell and I DO MEAN SHELL on a trailer going the other direction. Someone had obviously spent a lot of time as the shell was mostly bare metal (fresh) with some primer. As if the owner had picked it up from the sheet metal guy. She said: "Honey we're not that bad off.........look at THAT guy......... now there's a PROJECT!! We only have a engine to fix!!" Smile!!:D |
You know when you get to this point in a project you kind of wonder what the heck you got yourself into. The 928 I got rid of was mint, but I was bitten by the old 911 bug. Not only was I bitten by the old 911 but, I was bitten by the I want to build my own old 911 bug.

I'm in the same boat. I have disassembled my '69 and am essentially rebuilding the whole thing. What a project !!! It's coming along very slowly but nicely, and I will have a car I will really love when I'm through. However, I think I will just enjoy this car after it's finished and not do it again (well, maybe a Beck 550 kit). |
Oh when this is done I am going to enjoy it for at least a year.....before putting a cammed up 3.2 in it :D
