Rear window seal
Well after doing a number on my paint, I have decided to have a pro put in my rear glass. I have to supply the seal. I recently bought a new seal for this job but have just not been able to get to into the car correctly. First, the corners look terrible and secondly, how do I explain this; the seal does not seem long enough to go side to side. The seal can extend out over the metal surrounding the window on one side but not on the other side. My understanding is that the seal should go over the surrounding metal on all four sides. Does it sound like the seal is short or a beginner error. I know a friend of mine just had his replaced and the glass co had to cut the seal to make it long enough. Not sure where he bought it. Is it common for these seals to be a bit out of spec. Also, do these stretch out of spec after putting on any taking off the glass several times. I would hate to bring to the guy a seal that is not going to work.
This is the last thing from keeping me from driving after 10 months so I am a bit frustrated at this time. Thanks, David |

I have just had same problem, decided to get rid of old seal and replace it with new rubber, turned out to be a big mistake!
The first parts supplIEr I got a seal off sent me a completely round seal no preformed corners so when I fitted it the corners were a complete mess it took me five phone calls of them telling me I had fitted it inside out before they finally accepted it was there seal that was S***. The second parts supplIEr sent me what he said was an OEM seal and this was shaped in the corners to the profile of the window. This seal was a nightmare to fit, it was a bit short and needed stretching round the window this distorted the corners and made the seal trim a complete B***H to fit, following this I had to put it in and take it out 3 times before I was any where near happy with the way it looked. Comparing the new seal to my old one it was clearly different from the seal that was in my car originally not sure if this really was an OEM seal but I think it will definitely be getting replaced when my resto is done! Back to what you were saying on my car the seal doesn't fit outside the frame it was my understanding that the rear seal should fit inside and fill the recess for the window but not overlap! I would have another go at fitting If I was you I found out that it makes quite a difference to the fit which bit you fit first IE the top first or the bottom, I found that if I fitted it top first the glass seemed to be higher up and fell a bit short in the bottom corners, so on my final attempt I fitted the bottom first and this gave the best fit! Also do you have seal trim in your seal? if so make sure you fit this first as this helps to fill out the seal and make it a bit more rigid! Hope this helps Steve |

Thansk Steve.
The seal does have the corners so I guess that is good. The glass guy told me $70 so I think I will just just let him worry about it. I would just hate to have him experience the same problem I am having because the seal is too short. I could be wrong but I guess experts probably have work arounds to manage. Thanks, David |

If the seal is a bit tight it should be OK.
The seal goes on the glass first and then it's "roped" into the opening. My new back seal went into the opening like a charm, but the front was a total beach! We had to reverse the procedure and fit the seal to the opening and rope in the glass. Bob
