72 shift lever-chrome or black?
Hello all,
Ok I have popped off the shift knob as per this forum. Easier than I thought after reading about some horror stories trying to pry it off. Now I will look for a nice 915 shift knob and probably have to buy a repro as I hear they are very scarce. My shift lever is chrome and kind of scratched/scuffed up so I was thinking of replacing/refurbishing it. Did they come originally chrome from the factory or black? Is it complicated/difficult to remove the lever? thank you, Joe. |

black, you can powder coat. You have to take the shift mechanism apart not that difficult just tricky to adjust when you reinstall.

As a suggestion, you can go to Google.com and load in "1972 Porsche 911 Interior" and choose the images option up top.
Below is what you get. Then you can sniff around at the pictures. 1972 porsche 911 interior - Google Search |

All the old shift knobs are now available new from Porsche. It is part of their classic parts program. May be pricey but just wanted to let you know.

Thanks guys. Should be pretty easy.
Jstobo, good info re Porsche classic parts program. I had no idea they were making these again. I am sure the cost will be high! I was going to buy one from Sierra Madre as I heard they are very good but I will check it out Porsche first. |
