Couldn't get the camera out quick enough
So I'm on my way to work this morning driving toward the beach on Washington Blvd in Marina Del Rey. when all of a sudden I see three Porsche Cayenne's following one another with their headlights on, one of which was loaded up with heavy duty roof racks as if it were going to do the Paris-Dakar rally (personally I think they should do a factory entry into it, much the way they did with the 959, but I digress). Then from another street turns a 997 also with lights on, then behind it 3 more 997's (I'm sure some of these 997's must have been the new widebodied C4 or C4S, but I was mesmerized by this seemingly endless stream of Porsche's)...when all of a sudden something VERY special turns to take it's place among the caravan....appearing out of this marage of Porsches is an Oasis, a dark blue 997 Twin Turbo!!! It wasn't even masked off, there it was in all it's glory!!! Whether you're a fan of the newer cars or not, there's no getting around the fact that this 997 TT is a beautiful car and I'm assuming it has the Power to match. Behind the 997 TT was another couple of 997's then a silver Cayman joined the group. I have to say, I wasn't a huge fan of the looks of it when I first saw it in the magazines or online, but this car is awsome looking in person. Finally, the Cayman was followed by another 997 and the group started to fade away. As they all passed by me, I fumbled to get my camera out of my backpack, but by the time the camera was in my hands, the group of cars had dissappeared as quickly as they had come into view.
There ya have it, my encounter with a caravan of Porsche factory cars on their shakedown tests here in Sunny SoCal. ***Driving Porsches all day by the beach, Tough job, where do I sign up?!!?

Very cool Scott! Nothing like being in the right place at the right time...
When I worked at Andial in the late 80's-early 90's, we very often had a parade of future models show up from time to time. Porsche did (perhaps they still do) alot of their hot weather testing in the Death Valley area and since Andial shares a close relationship with the factory it was natural that they would come by and say hello. We were never allowed to photograph these cars though. We got an idea what the 993 was going to look close to way back in '89, when the 964 chassis first came out! . ![]() Andial was/is definitely the place to be for Porsche porn, in the 5 years that I was employed there I was fortunate to see, sit in or drive just about every street and race model ever produced, from the 550K all the way to the 962. I got to drive around the block the very first 959 that was imported into the country! Ralph |

You need to wake up or just enjoy what heaven might truly be. Of course you would be leading the caravan in a new GT!
Heck I saw a Tan SC here in Sterling Colorado (Washington Plates) and by the next day when the camera was with me it disappeared also. Just a good day!! |
