SC fog lights restoration q.
Hello,
I just replaced the pitted lenses on my SC fog lights. But the housings have a greyish, dull look to them so I'm thinking to take them apart and spray them black (Wurth rattle can). Any thoughts on this idea or has anyone on the board tried this? P.S., I think new Bosch SC lights are a couple hundred bucks, thus the paint idea. Thanks, Markus '80 SC Targa |

I replaced my lenses and painted the housings as well. I can't remember exactly what brand of spray paint I used, it worked perfectly. I did that about two years ago and they still look like new.
So, I think it is a great alternative to buying new ones and it is a great weekend project!

The Bosch fog lamps were originally powdercoated with a black crinkle finish powdercoat. My buddy with a plating and powdercoat business showed me the various products and the relative level of "crinkle" each forms once baked.
Unless your light housings are really beat up, don't paint them and you can use a product called Black Chrome by Turtle Wax that cleans and blackens the black so it doesn't look gray. This cleaner works quite well and will last quite a long time.

Harlan,
What else can you use that "Black Chrome by Turtle Wax" for?

Markus-A-Karkus,
Say it with me: Powder Coating! ianc P.S. Or you could just trash them altogether, buy the valence without the fog light holes that you know you really want, and sell me yours!

God !!!
grant me the serenity to powdercoat the things that need it, not powdercoat the things that don't & the wisdom to know the difference... unless you plan to show this SC at the Parade Concourse.... just get a can of 'satan' black spray paint from the "Chinese auto parts" store (Kragen et. al. ) nearest you, & paint um'
