?? about a 69' 911 worth
I may have an opportunity to buy a 69' 911, I am waiting for a call back and pictures to be forwarded and the VIN #, so I don't know much about the car. I don't think the car is in real good shape but I was wondering how much one that was in need of a good makeover would be worth. it also sounds like lots of extra parts will be going w/the car.

Too many variables, the biggest being rust and the drive train. If it's a knackered 'T', it could be worth only $4K. A rust free, running car in need of cosmetics could be worth 4 times that, depending on the VIN. If it's an 'S', even more.

Post the VIN here, we can tell you what model it is and that would be a good starting point. Kenik is right, rust is the biggest factor, look in the battery boxes, front and rear suspension mounting points, and rocker panels to start.

well thanks for the responses guys...as I said I don't have the VIN # yet ( he is calling back tonight w/it) he offered it to me yesterday for a (what I thought was) an extremely cheap price...so I almost jumped on it sight unseen, he said its been sitting for 12 - 15 yrs in a shop and has the original motor (that is out of car) and a 2.7 to go w/it...along w/various parts. So I guess even if he is selling for an extremely low price it still might only be worth that...almost nothing.
I'll post up the VIN tonight when he calls w/it.

Depending on the price and the parts included you might be able to just part it out and make some $$. I would rather see the early cars saved then parted (even a T) but it may not be worth the money if it's a rust bucket.

I got the VIN # but it doesn't add up....according to "Red Book" the guy got the numbers backwards. but maybe I'm wrong...here is the number as given to me.
9110100603 supposedly the production date is 12/69 so the Vin should read 119******* the 01 I think is also backwards for either T,E,or Sand then body type. oh well

That's a VIN for a 1970 911T I believe. Some people (and DMVs) are fooled by the 1969 production dates on a lot of 1970 models. In other words, it could be titled as a 69 when it is in fact a 1970 model.
A '70 model is better than a '69 by the way...it has a 2.2 instead of a 2.0 with more horsepower and other improvements. If you can take some pictures and post them, we can tell you more about the car and its value. |

I should clarify...a '70 911T is better than a '69 911T, I think most would agree. Your "S" is a different animal of course...didn't mean to offend.

LOL OK now I feel like an A$$ I should have looked further in the Book you are right, It shows it as a 70 T.... well I haven't made the drive to go see it yet,but the guy wants a real cheap price for it...he says the motor that was in it does not work (what that exactly means...I don't know) but he has a 2.7 to go w/the car along w/the 2.2
I'm thinking about getting it cause the price is so cheap but I need to go see it 1st to make sure it's not all rusted out.
