Tire repair question
I have a nail puncture on one of my new truck tires with approx 9k miles on them. These are expensive 20-in tires. What is the preferred rapair, just a plain old plug or having a patch applied on the inside? I preffer the patch idea. Are plugs acceptable repairs?
Thanks, Ed

If it's a simple puncture in the face of the tire, and the plug is PROPERLY DONE, a plug is perfectly acceptable. There is a technique to properly pluggin a tire, the plug must follow, exactly, the path of the original puncture (which often is not precisely perpendicular to the face of the tire) if the clean-out tool used is too sharp and used incorrectly the repair-guy will create a new path immediatley adjacent to the original and put the plug in it; which means the plug will fail. I must admit, if I can't do it myself, or know and trust the guy doing the plug, I prefer an interior patch.
