RS carpet, G50 shifter solution

Here's what I came up with. Very different from a 915 shifter, and with the console removed, the large plate is left open and a boot does not fit. So I refinished them and am happy with the resulting look, kinda cool seeing the parts moving about. I'm not worried about "stuff" falling in the tunnel as it has no where to go and is easily removed.

Hey sushinav, is there anything in the top of the g50 shifter plate or the bottom of the console that could snap or give a notchy feeling? I've been too busy to take my console apart, but I get this snapping sound and the stick feels notchy going from 3rd to 4th. the snapping sound seems to be coming from the base of my shifter, and I was thinking maybe something fell into mine. at least I hope it's up there and not in the trannie...

I'd like to remove my center console as well on my G50.
I still need the central lock, hazard and defrost switches. Did you relocate these or remove all together?

Looks like your interior is blue. How does the charcoal carpet look with the black RS panels? I just did the door panels and am deciding between the black and charcoal carpet.

when installing a g50 shifter in an early car, you have to take into consideration that the g50 equipped cars had an extra clearance "bubble" in the pan below the shifter. The sound and notchy feel you are experiencing could be the bottom of the cup on the shifter and the rod in the tunnel slightly binding against the chassis or the tunnel reinforcement under the handbrake. check it out

Wente, really hard to say. But the design is fairly simple, with the console off, all is visible and you should be able to see where the noise comes from.

Don, My interior is black with black seats and my car is dark blue. I went with charcoal for a little contrast and I'm very happy with it. I relocated my switches to behind the passenger footwell board for now. I have also deleted my radio and may put those switches on the block off plate when I get to it that point.
