Buying a 77 911, need advice

I am meeting a guy to look at 77 911 Targa. The power windows and the fog lamps are not working. The owner says they both quit at the same time when he was under the dash doing "something". Are there any common fuses, relays, etc that would affect the power windows and fog lamps simultaneously. Since it is not my car, I haven't tried to repair it, or checked voltage at various points. I am trying to gauge the validity of what he is telling me. I am meeting him this afternoon and plan to check this out further, but any info would be appreciated. I am at work and do not have access to any manuals or wiring diagrams.

I cannot give you any advice on the electrical issue. But I can tell you to get a thorough Pre Purchase Inspection (PPI). Any year Porsche 911 can put the BIG hurt on your wallet if it has major mechanical or rust issues.

Regardless of how "good" the price is, have the car checked out or Porsche 911 ownership could become a hardship.

Good luck.

No doubt you are correct. He has receipts for a complete engine and transmission rebuild in the past few months, new alternator, master cylinder, rotary compressor, plus a fairly recent paint job, 4 years ago I think...I was considering forgoing the PPI in light of all the recent work. We are contemplating a trade for my 97 Boxster, so it is probably a good idea to take both cars to a mechanic and have PPIs done on both.

See if the warranty on the fresh rebuild can be transferred to you as well. Hopefully he has something in writing from the shop that did the work, or at a minimum, go by & visit the shop with the owner.
PS. That's NOT the place to do the PPI..
