metal valve stems again

Does anyone know of a particularly good brand of metal stem to use on Fuchs wheels? These are 6" x 15" ones and the guy at the tire store sadi the metal stems he had would not fit my 6" wheels (tho they would fit the 7" ones).

He said they sit at an angle or something (unclear description over the phone) and the ones he had in stock need a large washer on them and would not fit.

He didn't know the brand of the ones he found in a catalog that looked like they would fit, but he said he could order them from "Excaliber."

I'm avoiding rubber stems because of the high speed bending issues. I've never had a tire dealer tell me they didn't have metal stems that would fit in stock before....
(This is a different tire place than I've used before since I had problems with the prev. place).

I found mine at NAPA - don't recall the name. They were "universal" as they had a gasket/adapters for my different hole sizes in the rim. I used 1" for the front, and 1.25" for the rear (they didn't have four in the same size). I can take a pic and post it later this afternoon if you want.

I just went thru this, nothing would fit, I have a set of 15" deep 6's with hearts on our 1969 911S.

I found a set of BBS metal valve stems that would work.

I got mine at Pep Boys. I had to do a bit of "modifying"
to get the fronts to fit right, just a tiny bit of grinding.
Motorcycle parts places have metal stems that work also.

Here are the valve stems. Tiny wording on the side says "Schrader" (the guy who invented them!).

thx - are the Scrader & the BBS ones on 6" wheels?

that seems to be the issue as he said the 7" wheels had no problem

I had my tire guy tell me the same thing - I ended up adding the valve stem supports instead.

Les Schwab Tire Centers locally had exactly what I needed for 7s/8s/9s Fuchs. Bought half dozen sets.

I think the problem is that the early 6" Fuch's have the hole drilled in the rim in the area that won't allow a nut and washer to seat properly (too
close to the radius) Whereas the 7's 8's and 9's have more space surrounding the whole for the nut and washer to seat properly, good luck

I think you are absolutely correct. It is pretty tight with the 7's even.

Stock 205's and 245's. Pretty sure they are 9's in the back as the 245's look small on the rim.

Al Reed uses the motorcycle one, IIRC. Fits deep 6's and all the rest. He used rubber ones, though, on my last set. They have a chrome shaft and I don't particularly like them. I use the supports, too.

Thanks - I like to get more info on the motorcycle ones if you have it.

This is a 6x`5 Fuchs, p/n 911.361.020.10 [dunno if that is flat 6 or deep 6 off the top of my head] that I just got back from Al Reed.

The diameter of the valve stem hole is 11+ mm - maybe 11.2 or 11.3, assuming the cheap calipers I have are accurate...

The outward face of the hole appears to be dished with a flat boss at the bottom.

The curvature of the rim starts almost exactly at the hole - and that may be the problem the tire place was talking about -- sorry about the lighting...

I wonder if there is a way to sandwich the washer/gasket on the inside of that wheel, and then just put a small nut on the outside? Sounds logical...

Saw these in my new 4wd Hardware catalog yesterday.

Gorilla Valve Stems

$14.95, comes with 4 flush stems, and a spare filler tube. Haven't searched to find if Gorilla has a website yet.
