Oil Cooler Cleaning
I've been reading the archives on the topic and understand the logic and consensus on having oil coolers ultrasonically cleaned post-traumatic failures.
The cooler I have is in good shape and I believe wasn't on any engine suffering traumatic failure. Whats the protocol for cleaning prior to installation? Can I run cleaner/degreaser/detergent through it for, lets say, 24 or 48 hours, periodically reversing the flow and tapping on it to get it cleaned out, or is something else needed? this is a 1983 3.0 on-engine cooler. thanks

Get it done properly, it is not that expensive about a $100.
