Who has stealth-mounted a Passport 8500?

Just got my illegal-in-VA radar detector and want to explore stealth mounting options.

In which car, Rick? Not a lot you can do in the SC. Ass-uming it works the same as the V1 (needs to be up high) you could improve upon my lead: V1 Stealth Install in 911

This has served me well for the past year. The Targa has no power in front of the roof opening, so it required me to be creative in getting power to it. According to some, you can take apart the leading edge and put the the wiring in there, but I haven't tried.

Having recently found out that the cops don't need "probable cause" or anything to clock you, makes me more and more willing to push my luck asserting my rights to know when I'm being monitored. Another discussion another time.....

BTW, I doubt you use Rt 17 to SP, but they have upped enforcement there in the past couple of months.

If up high, doesn't the tint strip affect the detector?

I did a LOT of reading on this last summer when I bought it. Basically, yes is the answer. But it needs to be up high to give the most early warning. Think of where the police always are: after the crest on 66...

My SC has no tint strip. When I use in the BMW, I mount the suction cups on the bottom edge of the tint strip. I wish I had it a couple of months ago. It will do nothing for you if it's in the gloebox.

only if the tint has a metallic base...

someone ought to make a large black oblong mirror mount - with enough room for a V1 just above the mirror...
