Seriously, I'm really looking forward to this drive. Driving Targa Style through what is arguably the most beautiful area of Washington State on a nice hot summer day! What could be better? (OK, don't answer that)

Yeah!
Arguing Dorks Shut up And DRIVE!! I just got back from Seattle, 6 hours in the car-or whatever it is- today, rocked. It was a quick there and back trip. I'm ready for more on Saturday. I'm sure by the time you get your mitts on that Sherbet Ice Cream it WILL be an orange drink! Just for comparison, what is it, mid 70's in Seattle today, low clouds, some sprinkles? It went from about 80 in Leavenworth to almost 94 here in Wenatchee. It dumped rain in Twisp yesterday... I'll call you Saturday morning Glenn, and meet you at the PUB! Bob O

Anyone joining us from Vancouver, BC, we're going to change the meeting place.
Instead of the Peace Arch, we're going to cross at the Truck Crossing, and meet at the gas station about 300 yards into the US. (Go to the first traffic light and hang a left... it'll be on your left). I'm arbitrarily going to say that we'll plan for a 6:15 departure from that gas station. Call me on my cel if you're going to be late... PM me for my cel or email address. This is so we can gas up/etc before the trip. Also, Sue's cousin from England will be joining us and they have to actually stop at the border guys to get his visa/etc., which shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes. *knocks on wood* ...jeff Last edited by jeffgrant; 08-11-2005 at 04:40 PM.. |

Hope the cousin's name isn't Mohammed or you'll all be detained.
We aint waiting if Sue gets stuck; it brings back memories from a late-morning start in Salmon Arm (Shudder) Why don't they fix the Visa-issue Friday? Beer in Brew---ster sounds good, but I don't want my picture taken because I might have a bad hair day. I am starting tomorrow, Friday, and come all the way from Kettle Falls on the #20 with high hopes about the run. I was serious about the swim at Pateros!

Nice marine inversion up to Ross lake today. High over cast and low 70s with some big gusts in the Cascade conversion zone from the hot high pressure area sitting on the east side of the mountains. I actually had the heater on for some of the drive up. And that was mid afternoon. Clear for a small part of the afternoon on top of Liberty Bell. Great views. Little spattering of rain on the way down and the drive home. 15 to 30+min road closures, and one way for a bit in the slide area, on Saturday just east of Newhalem.
Traffic was miserable mid day today. You'll be hating the RVs and Volvos but no LE to speak of today. 4hrs from here to Washington pass...3 hrs home and almost none of that legal. Looking north across the Highway at Cutthroat. ![]() From the base of LB's sw face looking east down the notch between Liberty Bell and Concord Tower. That is half the switchback in the bottom of the picture. ![]() Driving back into the inversion layer. ![]() In my best JO impression: "Uh, Dude, glad the nurse finally got that lithium/zyprexa cocktail mixed up and down the hatch for you!" ![]() Hopefully we'll see most of you Saturday night for IC. |

I'm going to try and meet up with you guys in Twisp, so here's what I'm thinking for timing:
The drive you guys are going on is actually deceptively SHORT. At least according to the all-knowing mapquest. You're in for less than 3 hours from Burlington to Twisp- 140 miles, where the lunch is supposed to happen. If you leave at 8' sharp you'll be having lunch by 11:00 am. Maybe you can find some fun along the way and get another hour out of it. So lunch right at noon..maybe 12:30. Figure 1.5 hrs lunch, photos and B.S. And from Twisp to Wenatchee is 90 miles the easy way. There are some roads to check out in between, but I dont know how much time that adds. So, I've been messing with maps, as I told Glenn I would..and came up with this route (red dotted line). I have no idea what most of that route would be like, or if there is even a road on the river from Bridgeport to Coulee Dam. But it looks fun! It's really not a long drive either- for reference Electric City to Orondo is 70 miles. So that whole loop from 97' out east and back to 97' may be 120 miles. We really dont have to decide until tomorrow at beer- I mean Lunch! Bob O

Yep, I did get a group rate at the West Coast Center hotel here,
$82 saturday night (reg $102), and 15 rooms on reserve. 509-662-1234. Just tell them you're with the Porsche club or something. They'll get it. I'd call in advance, I dont know if they'll hold the extra rooms if they start getting booked. Bob O

okay i finally did get the info after digging halfway through the thread.
it would REALLY help if island911 would update his very first post with all of the info. ie; DEPARTING from burlington krispy kreme at 8am, hotel group rate at west coast hotel (rate/number/etc). route map, channel for talkabouts (9?), if you get lost, contact these people (cell numbers, etc.) thanks.

Sounds typical doesn't it for the time and place Damn amazing what 30 years will do to the roads and trails in the area. Who would have thought a 18 mile bushwhack just to get to the base of LB would turn into a 2 hr groomed trail with a parking lot you'd leave a Porsche with race rubber on it. ![]() Amazing ain't it! Makes me a little nervious when the locals say it is hot
