early steering wheel interchangeability

Can anyone give me an education on what OEM steering wheels will fit on my 70T. Is it a size thing (mm's) or a mounting assy. thing?

I want an OEM one but would like it as small and sporty as posssible. I've heard the early RS or 914-6 wheels will fit, true?

anybody and expert?? and or got one to sell?

thanks for your time,

tr

ps. looking for a drivers seat with the chrome hinges also. thx.

tr,

Sorry, I can't address the types of OEM steering wheels out there, but I can say that you will be governed by the "mounting assembly" thing. The hub on early cars changed in 74 but you could fit any wheel from 66-73. Aftermarket wheels (I know, you want OEM) often come in two pieces with hub adapters for different years. If you're looking for an OEM wheel with a smaller diameter, I'm sure someone on the board will chime in. Good luck

Most 911's of that vintage came with 400mm wheels. Some were optioned with the smaller 380mm like the RS and 914-6.
914-4 wheels just need to be drilled (3 holes) and countersunk, for the 911 turn signal cancel ring. Very easy.
Here's a couple 380mm that are available:

Here is a real 914-6 380mm wheel restored by Autobahn Interiors in San Diego. It is two layers of leather to make it slightly thicker than the school bus sized wheel in it originally. Go to the 911S registry web site and search "380mm wheel" and get all the info you need to find a real 914-6 wheel that will bolt right in with turn signal cancel ring already there. You can even swap the tab ring right from your stock wheel to a 914-6 wheel if the tab is missing. Don't fall for the RS wheel claims on Ebay. Stupid money will leave your hands and go to the deceptive seller!
