89 Carerra Targa Market Value
Anyone have a feel for the present market value on a 1989 911 Targa in VG to excellent shape. It's a one owner with 88K miles and all records. Very well kept and completely original. No leaks. Owner is a long time P owner and has the pictures and a newish 996 to prove it. He seems to be in the mood for a new 997 and is cleaning house.
I really want a coupe but this is local to me and as nice as they get for the age and miles. Is 17-18K about right in the middle mid-west?? He wants more....but ya know...... |

If it's as good as you say, it seems like a fair deal to me for a fairly low mile G50 car.

17-18K sounds like a deal to me. I would probably go higher, depending on how bad you wanted the car.

Accroding to Mr. Anderson in his recent update....$18347 (low) to $20860(good) to $27925 excellent.
I am sure that your seller would be aware of this and would be looking in the over 20K category...

How much difference in deamnd Targa v Coupe?
I'm really pretty set onnot paying more than 18K given it's a targa. It seems to me like the targa has many fewer admirers. This may be becuase I lurke on the BBS which is more performance oriented. Maybe the general public is more enamored of the targa and I'm out of touch.
I would want to drive it for a year or so and maybe trade up to a late 964 or 993. I'm just not willing to take a hit on resale. I already have an SC targa but would like to move up the food chain as it's my everyday ride. I think the only thing that would compell me to move on this one is the condition and a low price. (it's also guards red/black...also not my first preference) |

If you have a targa and want a coupe... I say wait it out until you find the car you're really looking for. I know that's what I'm doing.

In april I sold my 87 targa in very good condition with 107k miled for $18.5. If it PPI's okay 17 to 18 sounds good.

I think the Anderson prices only apply to high end dealers that market very heavily, and are in no particular hurry to sell. Seems to me that private party sales run 20-25% below where his prices fall.
