Spared by the Porsche gods (tensioner pics)

This is a pic of my passenger side tensioner that I removed today. I pulled the engine on Friday to go after a few leaks, the clutch and to upgrade to Carrera tensioners.

Anyway, I found the saftey collar broken, and the screw for it floating around in the bottom, also found the upper chain ramp floating around loose in the chain compartment.

The drivers side tensioner had also failed an was sitting on top of the saftey ring. I think I was very lucky today.

Well my SC has 123K on the clock today. And if someone else can answer weather or not the 80SC had the saftey collars from the factory or not I might be able to get into the ballpark.

From the looks of the records I have the clutch and tensioners were replaced at about 65K, however it does not specifically mention the tensioners.

They definitely were not there from the factory... It does look like you got lucky!

My, you are lucky.

Saftey collars were not factory, people installed them after purchase just in case tensioners failed. It would be nice to know how long collars are good for before they have to be looked at, any idea?

If I go by the recipt that says "R&R tensioners" they were installed around 62k.

Porsche Crest

Looks like a pretty sloppy install, hence the loose Allen screw you found ... but, in this case, it was JUST good enough to do the job!
