Muffler clamp options - mcmaster.com part # included
I used the below clamps very successfully. I'd strongly recommend them. McMaster part # 8946K38. I had to modify my muffler brackets (on the back of the engine to follow the muffler's diameter a bit. The modification took 10 minutes, a hammer and an anvil.) They are very high quality, stainless + yellow-zinc plated bolt hardware w/ nyloc nut. Good stuff. I tried Porsche stuff, but the muffler was a different diameter and nothing fit this nicely.
These are lightweight and potentially great match for many muffler applications! Not OEM German, could cause catastrophic engine failure and death:rolleyes: PS, I'm JK, great idea, I used some stainless bandit,but it's not so easy to take apart.

Looks alot like a Clampco brand band clamp. Bet you got 'em much cheaper from McMaster! I love that place. Seems like they have everything and the online catalog flat out rocks.

I'm glad these work out for you! Here's the side shot. Nyloc seemed like the wrong solution (plastic and heat don't mix), but I've checked my, run it hard and haven't had any problems. Worst case, I could use a jamb nut or replace the nut with Billyboy's offering. I've actually been buying a lot of hardware from McMaster. I bought M6, M8 and other bolts and nuts for use all over the car. What color is it? Do you have any pics of the interior? How long have you been working on it? You have excellent taste. If I continue to flatter you will you let me drive it? I'm in the process of rebuilding my 3.0 out to a 3.2. The 915 is already rebuilt and the car was originally silver. I'd like to someday end up close to where you netted out with this car, can you direct me to any threds about your process? |

You can also reuse the original clamps on a larger diameter muffler by replacing the original bolt with a bolt about an inch or so longer. Worked for me.

I thought this may be valuable to share, for those who use different muffler sizes, but still want similar clamps.

I temporarily installed the muffler, using zip-ties and wrapped them around, tightening them as I would the clamp. I then cut it loose and laid it flat to measure their length. I believe the clamps are offered in diameters, so I divided by 2 pi (to go from circumference to diameter) - you should come up with the right size. Again, hope that helps! Doug |

Bought my muffler clamps from Mack trucks- same type of clamp, spring loaded, heavy duty(built like a Mack truck) for about $ 15 dollars each a few years ago. Worked like a charm. Jerry

Can I get a straight fron end shot of your car? I just did a long hood conversion and I have a huge gap between my bumper and the hood/fenders.....I ordered the seal that goes between it....but from what I remember....most long hoods don't have that big a gap.....

Not exactly front on, but close. There is a seal which goes between the top of the bumper and hood and fenders. You can see it in this photo as a line of black. I'll take another photo square on and close up of the seal. BTW - I still need to contact you about the graphics trade for the wheel spacers.
