Roll Bar questions
I am looking to install a roll bar for my car. I do quite a few DEs and feel that its worth while. I would love pictures of people who have them to get an idea. I like the bolt in but I wouldnt mind hear both sides, as well as testimonials. I was also wondering which have the diagonal side bars for side impact. Once again pictures would be great.
Thanks! |
sweet roll bar
I just put in a bolt in race type of 2" DOM tubing. Easy instal and really stiffins up the car. Definitely an upgrade!:)

I have the Das-Sport bar in my car and really like. It was fairly easy to install, but if you have the early 80s factory sport seats, then it will interfere with sliding the seat back all of the way.

I have an Autopwer bolt-in roll bar. I think it is a good addition for a DE-type of car. The back seats are now useless, of course, but that's the trade off. I don't think my roll bar stiffened the car at all but that's not really what I was after.
You're not going to get "door bars" generally with a roll bar - those come with a full cage. IMHO, a full cage is too much for a street car. Mike |
I also have an Autopower bar and modified a pair rear seat backs to clear the side bars. The only issue is that the seat backs were from a coupe and don't have the lock pins required for a Cab to keep them upright. My daughters ride in the back seats a lot so I don't have the cross bar. I definately think it stiffened the body flex inherent to a Cab.

I have a OG Racing setup. It sits high on the sills and allows the seat to go all the way back with no problem. That is good for my 6'3" frame.

Matthew -
I am using the Das-Sport bolt in bar in my 930 and really like it. I am in Chicago so if you are ever around you can feel free to come by and take a look first hand. Unfortunately it is a difficult item to get a good installed picture of. Rob |
Looking between the Saftey devices with a fixed diagonal and the DAS Sport, I see one big difference. The SD comes powder coated from the factory while the DAS is unfinished. Is this true, anyone have experience. I think it would be much easier to have it come ready to rock rather than to have to paint or powder coat it.
|
The DAS weekender definately comes unfinished. Just got mine last week. I am still awaiting a reply from DAS to see if they recommend mounting the shoulder belts directly to the bar.

my autopower came painted black but scratched

matt,
the "bird version 3.2" has an autopower bar in it... did you take a look at it when you were at kevin's? i think these things come up pretty cheap used. not a bad 'de' solution IMO. -bernie |
I have DasSport sittin in my garage. Heavy! I like the design of the OG one better as it mounts higher up and is probably a little bit lighter as well. I might sell it and get he OG one......
