Permatune Ignition Coil question

On my 77 911 Carrera 3.0 I have a permatune. I know when I was trouble shooting in the past the man over at Pematune told me to buy any coil that would an 70 something Nova. There was some other point he mentioned that I believe was to make sure it used and external resistor or regulator or something. At the time, I got whatever he told me to get. Anyways, he said one one the benefits was that the coil didn't have to be one of those expensive ones that the Stock units require.

Any idea why this can use a cheap coil and not an expensive one. I think the coil cost me like $20 versus 60or so for one of those blue ones.

Thanks,

David

Maybe it was just me, but I ran the VW Bosch super blue for a while, then went back to the oem that was sitting in my tool box. I seem to be doing points and dwell less often with the oem.
