'85 911 clutch/transmission/shifting
just bought this beautiful black targa...test drove it... wonderful..
the fellow I bought it from was a good guy...trusted him...but after about 150 miles I began having trouble shifting gears..... the gearshift felt very loose in my hand, it didnt want to go into 3rd or reverse...would go into third if you put it in 5th position...came out of gear very easily....what does this sound like? low transmission fluid? clutch problem? transmission problem? syncros? linkage?...the seller had records and had taken the car to the same mechanic for several years... |

Do a search on 915 shifter. You'll find a ton of information. I'd start with removing the shifter housing and taking a look at the bushings. Also, inspecting the shift coupler would be a great place to start. I wouldn't jump to any bad conclusions until you've more information.
I'd guess it is just linkage, but too early to tell. Look at www.seinesystems.com for a schematic. Hope that helps, Doug
