3.6 Muffler Question
I just installed my new Triad muffler and was wondering if I need to use muffler straps to drive around. Is it possible to drive around without them temporary without any consequences? Anyone else drive around with 993 headers with a strapless muffler? Thanks.

Should be fine for a short while. Couple of questions...
How is the sound, any drone at part throttle? Are you going to dyno this combo? Thanks, Jeff

Congrats!! Check out this thread for some cool muffler clamps:
Muffler clamp options - mcmaster.com part # included Not sure of your layout, but likely some size of these clamps may work. Doug

Jeff, the car sounds so different driving around from open Bursch headers to 993 headers/Triad muffler combo. I was expecting the deafening noise when starting the motor last night, but all I heard was a very much subdued 3.6 motor. The muffler was almost TOO quiet during my test drive and there was no drone that I could tell; did about 15 min. of testing between all the normal ranges (2.5k, 3k, 3k-4k). Will be able to do much more once I get some straps in place. As for dyno testing, it would be hard to tell what it does for power since I didn't do a before baseline test. But I can honestly tell you, the last thing this motor needs ISN'T power.
![]() Doug, thanks for the link. How did you mount the muffler after installing the straps? Do the straps attach to a mounting point in the back of the motor?

There is a mounting bracket on the back of the motor specifically for the muffler. It shows in the picture (below), but is hidden behind the muffler. I had to bend mine a bit out to have it contact the muffler. Let me know if I need to take some shots of it. I suspect your 3.6 has something similar?
You can se it as the grey part immediately behind the muffler. ![]()

Cool, thanks for the info, that confirms what I have heard from other 3.6 guys with this setup. I had one on my 3.2 but it droned terribly around 2700-3300. I am building a 3.4 now with PMO's and will probably use the 993 HE that I have on the shelf and was thinking of trying thid muffler..
Thanks, Jeff
