Can you hook up a timing light and see what the timing is doing as you rev the engine? I know it is computer controlled, but if it goes hay - wire, maybe you can narrow it down to a specific system?

Longshot, but.....
At what engine speeds do the varioram solenoids change (IE open or close) the length of the intake runners? Maybe it has something to do with them? You could probably disconnect connectors to the solenoids and see if anything changes.

You may also be able add a "check engine " light circuit and then look for any stored defect codes by counting flashes. Search for "Moses or Ingo" threads.I,m going to get around to this eventually myself.I will use the former Oxy light on the SC dash.
Rich running is normal until the O2 sensors put the engine into closed loop.Your nose will detect it if you are not running a Cat.
I think the head temp sensor primary funtion is to aid cold starting
The crank position sensor may be too near or too far from the flywheel also.Did you set it at about 1mm before installing the trans?

To salvage the DE weekend, you are welcome try the 964 DME in an 82 SC 3.6 . Live in Hickory NC, so I am close. 828.292.1435

Problem has been finally solved... It was a faulty timing sensor.
Thanks again for your help and support!
