A little help with cam timing please...

Cross posted on the engine rebuilders forum...

OK - Have to admit that the timing aspect of engine building is a little intimidating for me.

Followed directions per wayne's book and Bently.

Crank at TDC (and blue arrow to highlight) Cams with keyway up. Set #1 intake valve clearance per book. A little movement/slides around but starts to grab a little when pulled out. Z tool on cam tower. Dial guage set up on retainer spring parallel to valve.

Anyway - the issue I have is the book says I should be able to get almost a complete 360 degree turn before hitting the 2.00 mm reference. (2.0mm given by camgrinder for 993 ss cams)

In reality I'm not quite getting 180 degrees before 2.0mm is showing up on the dial guage. (more like 5:00 o clock)

Jeremy, check your left cam. do the lobes form a wide V? is it possible you have your right & left cams reversed? Craig
