Backdating heat with SSI's on a Carrera??
I am looking to hook up the heat after my SSI install on the 87 Carrera. From the earlier Backdating Heat threads the pictures look like the engine tin is changed with the 930 part for heat ducting.
On the carrera the original hole to pass the hose through is in the tin on the backside of the motor..... and everyones pictures looks like the new hose routing is setup to pass through the drivers side tin. **** Big ?..... Does anyone have a picture of passengers side heat backdate with the original A/C?? .... I cant see how you can fit the ducting under the a/c housing with the backdate setup.

Do a search. There are several threads with this mentioned.
You have to either change out the sheetmetal to the old style or make a duct that used the old hole on the left side by the dizzy then use two pieces of ducting. I used aviation hose on part and metal on the other, to resist the heat from the muffler. Its doable but you need to be a bit crafty. JoeA

In all of my searches I cant find a backdated carrera with oem a/c.
Anyone have it? It needs to go from the alternator, under the a/c, through the pass side tin and straight down to the SSI.

Use the words "backdate heat" without the word Carrera and you will get 158 hits. Not sure how many or if any have A/C.
Some of the better threads are below: Why you should backdate your heat on a 3.2 Gratuitous pics of Carrera heater backdate... Heat Backdate tube length / options Backdating Heat, Footwell Blowers and Fresh Air Fan Heating blower re-routed, needed?

SSI = Stainless Steel Heat Exchangers
From our Host: "The SSI heat exhangers are based on the 1974 and earlier 911 exhaust design that was highly optimized for the Porsche 911 engine. 1975 brought about changes in the exhaust that severely limited the flow capacities of the engine, in order to make the engines pass stricter smog standards. The SSI 1974-style heat exchangers are a bolt-on replacement for all thermal reactor cars (1975-77). Using the SSI heat exchangers will make these engines run cooler, make 16 more horsepower (10%), and 28 ft-lb more torque at 3,000 RPM (26% improvement). In addition, the reduced heat from the SSIs will help the engines last much longer. 911SC engines can expect to see an addition of 30 ft-lb of additional torque at 3,000 RPM (increase of 24%). " Also, SSI's can be fitted to 84-89 Carrera (i have them) but you lose the stock cabin heat setup. So you have to retro fit to the earlier setup, hence the term "backdate."

The OEM AC will fit, just a tight squeeze on the heater hose. Here are a couple of pics without the AC:
