can't go into first gear
For some reason today my car will not go into first gear. I have to put it in second to get it going. What's wrong with my clutch? I need suggestions before i take it in to a shop to get it looked at. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks, Jayson |
Is the clutch really dis-engaging?
Check the free play and throw on the clutch. Also...check that the throwout lever (in the bell housing) is not broken or bending. Other than that....will it go in when the engine is off? Perhaps the gear shift needs to be adjusted. Bob |
Does it go in if you turn the engine off?
oops thats been said alreay!! |
If you can go into reverse without grinding noise then the clutch is properly adjusted and working. Since you can also get into 2nd the clutch is also working and your problem is the 1st gear synchros are shot and the dog gear and shift sleeve needs replacement. Do search for 915 gearbox rebuild and see the damage in posted photos.
