Valet Etiquette
Ok so I just got my first 911 and I am an avid golfer.... throughout the summer I will be invited to play at clubs where I will have to deal with valet issues ..... I don't want to turn my keys over to let someone else park it ..... are there any tactful methods to get around this and not come off like an A$$
TIA Ed

Be an ass! I've read and heard too many valet horror stories to even think of letting one of those little a-holes touch my car, let alone drive it. How about offering them a tip to allow you to park your own car, and you keep the keys? They might go for that, if the tip is big enough. A $10 tip is a lot less expensive than a new clutch, new rear tires, and possibly a gearbox overhaul...

Put a Valet switch in, key operated of course....when the key is turned...the rpm limiter is set for say 2500 rpm.
One idea. Bob

A rev limiter wouldn't have helped this guy....read and weep, though the story ended well...sort of.

I like the ejector seat idea.... looking for a clever line of humour to dish out .... then (some sort of tip) ... then off I would go to park it myself.....

Seems wise to me, Ed...let the little punks tear up a Cayenne instead of your car.

A long time ago I was a valet for a short time. Believe me, they don't care about anything but the tip. As long as you tip them the same, they'd love it if you would do their work for them. Forget about $10, unless that's what they get at these places. Just hand them the normal amount out the window and ask where you should park it.

I used to be a valet in college, don't trust them. I park in a good spot, maybe even in valet parking and tip the valet on the way in and ask them to keep an eye on it. They just care about the money.

Just remember the "valet" scene in "Ferris Buhelers Day Off".

If you own a car with a 901 tranny, NEVER let a valet park it. You can read the stories by searching...

I used to valet in school and David is right. Its all about the money. When you pull up just tell them you want to park it and give them a tip. The better the tip the better the parking spot. But the key is to let them know you are going to tip them and they will probably get you a good spot and watch it for you.

I rarely deal with valets, living in a forest in Upstate New York, but one time recently when I did, I told him he was welcome to drive my gold-plated Porsche but to be careful, it has carburetors and they catch fire if you do the slightest thing wrong, and the fire extinguisher is on a bracket in front of the passenger seat. I was welcome to drive it myself, he said, rapidly backing off.

Never ever in my life will I give my car to the valet guy. What for them, they bare no risk at all. I once gave my 911 to the valet guy at the Ritz Carlton hotel which is either a 5 or 6 star hotel. Firstly he took abt 10mins to bring the car back, secondly when he got out of the car, guess what was in his hand? MY GEAR KNOB!!! NEVER ever again.

Another anoying thing is they stall it about three times. Thats after they "find" the gas pedal and rev it to 7,000 rpm.
Maybe casually mention you have mob connections

Just avoid the whole thing. Get there early, park in the non-valet parking or far enough away so it's not an issue, and hoof it in dragging your clubs.

The Direct method:
Just say "Nobody drives this thing but me, where can I park?" If he is polite give him a tip, if he is an a$$, stiff him. |

Had to use valet park in Nashville recently. The first valet couldn't figure out how to start Blkbird, the second guy stalled her. Finally they idled my baby into a spot 10 feet away as I stood there watching the whole time. Could have just driven into the danged spot myself, but hey, it was worth $14 to watch them goof around.
