Help with my rear window defrost
I have been slowly putting everything back to working order on my '74 911. I am getting ready to work on my rear window defrost. The grid is shot, but nothing that a little time, patience and some metallic paint can't fix. What I can't seem to figure out however is where the electrical connections are on the grid. I've found the two stage relay and the switch seems to work but I am not getting any power on the grid. I am guessing that when they put the window in when re-building the car they didn't connect the power back up.
My question is...does anybody have a picture of the connector location at the grid? And where are the wires run for the grid. The relay is in the rear engine compartment block. HELP! |
Check on the drivers side/rear corner of the window. There should be a couple wires exiting the window seal. No wires mean no drfeoster.

The rubber is so tight around the window. Should I be able to see the wires or just feel them under the head liner? Because I can't see any at all. Where do the wires run? Maybe I can find where they cut them off and splice in new connections and affix a new tab connector to the window grid. If I can't find the existing wires, does anyone know how to make the connections to the relay? Can I just come out of the relay and poke up onto the rear deck? A diagram or picture would be wonderful.....I really want to make this work. I am really anal about getting this car 100% back to working order.

The wires will be under the rubber lip (glass side not headliner side) inside the car. If they are like my SC, the wires will run up along both sides and along the bottom and exit the rubber seal in the far bottom drivers side corner. My SC has a two circuits so I have more wires.
The rubber seal basically has a wire channel formed into it on the glass side (inside), it should be simple to pull it away with a popsicle stick or something to peak in there looking for wires. |
Ok...I will look there. Thx.

This is a shot of a '73 single stage defroster. The only difference will be the number of wires.

That is the perfect picture!!! Ok...I've looked and I have no wires coming into the window. There is nothing that drops down...so now how do I hook it up fresh. I know how to put the tabs on the grid. how do the wires run into the relay? I'm just going to run black wiring from the engine compartment two stage relay into the rear deck tucked tight against the metal under the window and wrap tight against the rubber to my new tabs. That way I will only have a couple of wire wraps showing. No big deal....somebody just help me with the relay hook up.
