Do you need a good Laugh ?

I've just earned the bone head of the year award . I installed new ss brake lines and rebuilt the front calipers on my car this weekend . I've fought for 2 days to get my brakes bled with little luck , I've also read alot of tech articles trying to solve my problem .Now this isn't my first go around working on my cars , Ive done this for years as a hobby . I called my brother to see if he had any thoughts on my problem , during our conversation a question came up about the bleeder screw position and I told my brother it was at the bottom of the caliper , as soon as I said that I realized what I had done wrong . How could I make such a stupid mistake . I went out and switched the calipers around and used the power bleeder and I now have more pedal than I've had in the last two 2 days . My brother got a good laugh out of this so I thought I would share this with everyone . Now before you hit the floor laughing give me credit for being man enough to share this with everyone .
Jim

While laughing at your situation . I realized that I have never been satisfied with my brake performance after having just completed a rebuild (calipers and all). I bled, trying all the various methods and even ordered a power bleeder from pelican. After reading your post I grabbed a flashlight and headed for the hanger and sure enough the calipers are on upside down. Thanks for your willingness to share your misfortune with us. I now have a project for tomorrow evening !!

In that case im second in line for that award.
Funny when I think back but lets just say I was slowly becoming the Hulk( the green guy) that day things were going so well.

I modified the rear brakes on my bmw with bigger units from a M car supposed to be a bolt on deal factory brake lines everything.
I had the calipers reversed. I figured it bolted up it so it was good to go.
couldnt be more wrong. I even made costom brake lines when I didnt need them and a hundres trips to the parts store.
I even drove around for a few weeks with a sponge brake pedal until I asked my buddy why the hell I could not bleed them he spoted in right away.
Good times.

Confession is good for the soul, gives a good laugh, and helps the forum out in the long run.

And no one here can throw any stones I am sure...

Good show!!!

Again don't feel too dopey, I rebuilt all my calipers and powder coated them and also painted all my brake pad retaining hardware which was a big mistake. I thought they would look good painted all silver ( which they did ) but I always had a soft pedal even after bleeding a gallon of fluid without a bubble. Turns out the pads got hung up on the painted retaining pins and everything worked perfectly after I removed the paint and lubed the pins with grease (which I obviously did not also do originally). I drove 250 miles before I figured it out and man I felt stupid when I finally did.
Kudos to your honesty

Of course you helped !! I'm excited and anxious for the sun to come up. I'd never driven a P-car before this one and wasn't pleased with the brake performance. Now I know there is light at the end of the tunnel. Every time I gleen new information from this forum my driving experience gets better and so does my car.

Thanks again,
Mark (grezdlitn)

Cars can be dangerous to ourselves and others if not mantained correctly. I am sure this was a humbling experience but should also be taken seriously. It is our responsibility to make sure are cars are maintained safely.

Regards.
