I had a misfortunate stop there last year on the way to California and was stuck on the highway for almost 3 hours and nearly froze to death waiting on the highway patrol. All turned out well and the highway patrol lady was awsum. :-)

Actually, yes. Kearney is the location of Marshall Engines. They are a major national engine remanufacturer.

Wouldn't be such a bad to live as they are starting a new track in Hastings NE about 30 minutes from Kearney. The track should be real nice. They have plans for an automotive industrial park and from I what understand someone is putting in an automotive test facility. I think they have started some grading on the track. Our SCCA had a break-in rally cross there this spring and they had just gotten final approval to begin. I am about 2 or 2.5 hours away so will probably make a few trips there.

I noticed a large Chevy museum somewhere along the highway there in Nebraska and a few other car related happenings.

dfink--so is this new track in hastings supposed to be a road course or oval track? Where can I get more info on this? sounds exciting--a new track sounds great!

I was born in Alliance, is that anywhere near Kearney? Lots of cattle ranchs then. 105 in the summer, -5 in the winter. It's been too long since I spend anytime there, like 1953 or so... I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now. If you're going to steal a line, it might as well be from Dylan.

Track is not running yet however I believe all is a green light with approvals and such. It will however be the home of the scca rally cross nationals. You can get more information on the rally cross at the nebraska region SCCA who is hosting the event.
