Anodizing metal engine grill?

Anyone done this? I have a black one that I want to make silver. I guess a start would be to remove the black anodizing to get to the silver. Maybe a clear powdercoat over that? Suggestions?

Color is added to anodize after the anodize process. (then there is a sealing process) Call a plater. (?)

Ask for decorative anodizing...Hard anodizing is more expensive, and used for its wear resistant properties.

To change a black grill to an authentic looking silver grill is no easy task.

You will need to disassemble the grill and either sand off or have an anodizer remove the black. Having the anodizer do it is the best way. Then you will have to find a anodizer who does bright dip anodizing. They can prepair and anodize the ribs for you. Or if you want a dull but silver grill use clear anodizing. Same finish as a Fuchs.

Then you have to re crimp the ribs back onto the frame.

Really think this through before doing it. It is not easy. But it can be done and is really satisfying when you get good results.

I'd think it would be easier to try to find somebody with a silver grill who wants a black one? I once talked to a guy who had a black one re anodized...he said it was a pretty complicated disassembly and reassembly process.
