gtech numbers on my 2.7 turbo EFI

I just did a couple of runs on my GTECH Pro tonight to get a starting point. The car is a 76' 2.7 turbo with Tony's EFI kit. Here is the info. Can anyone guess to what the actual HP of the motor would be. The numbers are supposed to be NET #'s

190 HP at 6000 rpm
180 tq at 5025 rpm
0-60 7.01 seconds

I need to get some more runs so that I can start tuning the Megasquirt. I think that I can get more out of the motor.

What would the 190HP mean in engine numbers?

Thanks
Oscar

If you assume a 15% power transfer loss through the tranny and differential that would be about 190 / .85 =~ 223hp. Not too shabby for a 2.7.

Remember, thou shalt only countest to three when thoust pulls the pin out of the holy hand grenade. :)

I have the older G-tech so this info is about that. You have to put in a fudge factor for wind resistance. If your 6000 RPM pull was in 2nd gear at about 60mph you could guess you are using about 15 horsepower to fight wind resistance.

I calculate my flywheel HP as follows. G-tech number (190) plus 15 HP for wind and 10 percent (20HP) for drive train loss. That would put you at 225 at the flywheel.

You have to have an accurate weight programmed in for this to be valid. My wind resistance number is a WAG (Wild A$$ Guess).

Here's the big question that inquiring minds want to know, what boost were you running during the run?

I had it set before around 7 lbs. I need to make some more runs so that I can tune the EFI. It was hard to see what the boost gauge was reading. this was the first time that I openned the car up. didn't even get close to what the car could have done, it was still pulling hard at 6000 rpm when I shifted

I am also going to do some datalog's with the laptop hooked up to the megasquirt at the same time that I do some runs to see how the car is running during the runs. This will help me tune it better. I think that I am still far from the potential.

Great work Oscar.

Shoot me a datalog with a pull in 2nd gear after the engine is fully warm and I'll have a look at it.

Lot's of very good info in the datalog. For example we can plot Boost vs RPM to see how quickly the turbo kicks in. Also interesting to see what the intake temperature is when turbo reaches full boost. You can then calculate how much more gain an intercooler could get you.

Cheers,
